Lockinge heroine Red Evie off the mark as dam

TOP racemare Red Evie got off the mark as a broodmare when her daughter Magical Dream scored by two lengths from Diamond Sky (Montjeu) in a 7f fillies' maiden at Galway on Tuesday.

Red Evie was trained by Michael Bell to win nine races including two at the top level - the Matron Stakes and the Lockinge, in which she beat the likes of Jermey, Peeress and Ramonti.

Originally sold for €50,000 as a foal at Goffs and for 58,000gns as a yearling at Tattersalls, Red Evie was not sold for 1,000,000gns when offered at the Tattersalls December breeding-stock sale at the end of her racing career.

After the sale, Coolmore purchased the daughter of Intikhab and Listed winner Malafemmena privately.

Magical Dream, an Aidan O'Brien-trained daughter of Galileo with a host of big-race entries, was bred by Roncon, Wynatt and Chelston and is the second foal produced by Red Evie, after the unraced Galileo filly Red Corvette.

Red Evie also has a yearling colt by Galileo, who has worked well with Intikhab mares before. Champion South African filly Igugu is also bred on the Galileo-Intikhab cross.

The cross of Galileo over Intikhab's sire Red Ransom has produced another top-class Australian-bred filly in the shape of Mahbooba.
