Listed victory for ERA Sale entry Burano

Thursday; Meydan

Meydan Classic Sponsored By The Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group (Listed), 1m, 3yo

BURANO (c Dalakhani - Kalimanta by Lake Coniston)

Bred by Sir E J Loder

AFTER showing good form without winning at two, Brian Meehan's Burano finally broke through when it mattered on Thursday, narrowly denying Entifaadha to win the Listed Meydan Classic.

Victory saw the colt boost his value significantly - he is catalogued as lot 3 in Saturday's ERA Horses in Training Sale at Meydan - while becoming the 24th stakes winner by Dalakhani.

Although bred by Sir Edmund Loder, Burano is Aga Khan-bred on both sides of his pedigree being a son of Gilltown Stud resident Dalakhani and out of a half-sister to the Aga Khan's Champion Stakes winner Kalanisi.

Purchased by McKeever Bloodstock for €82,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale, he is the second stakes runner out of the unplaced Kalimanta following Kalidaha, who was Group 3-placed for John Oxx. In addition to Kalanisi, Kalimanta is a half-sisterto five other winners including the Group 2 Scottish Derby winner Kalaman and Listed heroine Kaloura.

Kalimanta was sold by the Aga Khan for €150,000 to Richard Frisby at the 2007 Goffs November Sale.

The 15-year-old mare has a two-year-old by Kheleyf named Lady Gosforth and a yearling colt by Azamour.
