Listed success for bargain Alhaarth filly

SEOLAN, who was sold for just €2,200 to the BBA Ireland at last year's Tattersalls Ireland November Flat Sale, upstaged some highly regarded fillies on Sunday when running out the length winner of the Listed Staffordstown Stud Stakes at the Curragh.

The Paddy Prendergast-trained filly becomes the 23rd stakes winner overall for her sire, the Derrinstown Stud veteran Alhaarth. Of those 23, three - Awzaan, Haafhd and Phoenix Reach - have won at the highest level.

Seolan is the only winner from the first three foals out of five-time Italian winner Kawaha. By Danehill Dancer, Kawaha is out of a winning half-sister to Listed winner Grey Lilas, who later found fame as the dam of Group 1-winning miler Kenmist, herself dam of the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and Prix de Diane heroine Golden Lilac.

Kawaha has a filly foal by Intikhab.
