Lingfield: debut win
for Bernardini colt
CASSINI Flight is on his way to justifying the decision of his breeder, Sanford Robertson, to retain the colt for 170,000gns after striking late to land the opening 7f maiden at Lingfield.
In the process, the Jeremy Noseda-trained colt became the fourth winner in Britain and Ireland by Sheikh Mohammed's multiple Grade 1 hero Bernardini. The list is already an illustrious one since it includes Gran Criterium winner Biondetti, Fillies Milethird Theyskens'theory and the highly regarded Treasury Devil.
Bernardini, who stands at Darley at Jonabell in Kentucky, has also made an impact in the US where he is the sire of Grade 1 winner A Z Warrior and Grade 1-placed Stay Thirsty. Consequently, his fee has been raised from $60,000 to $75,000 for the 2011 season.
Cassini Flight is the third foal out of Cassis, who carried Robertson's colours to victory in the 2003 Musidora Stakes. The daughter of Red Ransom - purchased by Robertson for $250,000 as a yearling - is out of US minor stakes winner Minstress and a half-sister to the dam of US champion Storm Song.
MISTER Frosty, a five-year-old son of Verglas, finally obliged at the 28th time of asking in the 1m4f maiden.
Bred by Thomas McDonough in Ireland, the gelding is the first winner from three runners out of La Chinampina, an unplaced daughter of Danehill from the further family of Anshan.
