Lily completes Galileo Group 1 Arc day double

NYSE Euronext Prix de l'Opera,  Longchamp, 10f, (Group 1, fillies and mares)

LILY OF THE VALLEY  (3 Galileo-Pennegale by Pennekamp)

Breeder: Dunmore Stud Limited

GALILEO completed an Arc day Group 1 double - both with fillies - when Lily Of The Valley pegged back stablemate Stacelita to win the NYSE Euronext Prix de l'Opera.

Lily Of The Valley was bought at Arqana as a yearling for €140,000 in 2008 and two subsequent progeny out of her dam have sold well at the same venue: a colt by Oratorio was bought by Lily Of The Valley's trainer Jean-Claude Rouget for €230,000 last year and a filly by Holy Roman Emperor sold for €160,000 this August. Ironically, she was bought by Oceanic Bloodstock, which represents Martin Schwartz, owner of Opera runner-up Stacelita.

Pennegale, who failed to win, has also produced the French Listed winner Calbuco. Third dam, Gay Apparel is ancestressof Group winners Pont Aven, Sainte Marine, Josr Algarhoud, and Shakespearean.
