Grasshopper retired to Lane's End Texas

GRADE 1-placed Grasshopper has been retired to stand at Lane’s End Texas.

The seven-year-old son of the late stallion Dixie Union won the 1m1f Grade 3 Mineshaft Handicap at Fair Grounds at four, and at three got to within half a length of Street Sense when runner-up to him in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes.

He won five of his 21starts and finished second a further six times.

Bred by Will Farish in partnership with E. J. Hudson and the estate of James Elkins Jr, Grasshopper is out of the Mr Prospector mare Grass Skirt and is a brother to Grade 3 winner Turf War.

Grass Skirt is a half-sister to the dam of Santa Anita Derby runner-up Easy Grades and from the further family of 2,000 Guineas hero Mark Of Esteem.

Grasshopper’s fee has yet to be announced.
