Leicester: double
joy for Pakenhams

IT was a case of job done in the Leicester finale as Lady Rosamunde added significantly to her residual value when taking the 1m2f classified stakes.

The daughter of Maria's Mon was lining up off the back of a string of places for Marcus Tregoning and her owner-breeders Anthony and Victoria Pakenham, who also bred the winner of Leicester's opening maiden Great Acclaim.

The seventh foal out of Deauville Listed winner String Quartet, Lady Rosamunde is a half-sister to last year's Oaks runner-up Meeznah and the Group 2-placed Shahin, who now stands at stud in Italy.

String Quartet was acquired by the Pakenhams through Hugo Lascelles for $285,000 out of the Swettenham Stud dispersal at the 2007 Keeneland November Sale. The daughter of Sadler's Wells, who is out of the 1986 Irish Oaks runner-up Fleur Royale, has a yearling colt by the Pakenham's Derby winner Sir Percy.

Great Acclaim was bred by the Pakenham's out of Pearl Bright, a 55,000gns purchase by Lascelles at the 2008 Tattersalls February Sale. By Acclamation, Great Acclaim is a brother to the Group 2-placed Berbice. He was sold to trainer James Fanshawe for 62,000gns at Book 2 of the 2009 Tattersalls October Sale.
