Barbaro full-brother born in Kentucky

A FULL-BROTHER to ill-fated 2006 Kentucky Derby hero Barbaro was born on Wednesday.

Roy and Gretchen Jackson’s mare La Ville Rouge produced the Dynaformer colt at Mill Ridge Farm in Kentucky. The new arrival weighs in at 138lbs.

La Ville Rouge, a 15-year-old daughter of Carson City, has now produced seven foals, including three other colts by Dynaformer: stakes-placed Nicanor, winner Lentenor and two-year-old Margano.

“While only a day old, he appears to have plenty ofleg and bone and is a quality foal,” said Headley Bell, managing partner of Mill Ridge.

“Any time you have a healthy foal you are thankful. Especially when it is a brother to Barbaro. The Jacksons are considering breeding the mare back to Dynaformer, for they have always sought a sister to Barbaro.”

Barbaro was the impressive six-and-a-half-length winner of the Kentucky Derby and was sent off odds-on to take the second leg of the US triple crown in the Preakness Stakes.

However, he broke down badly in the Preakness and failed to recover from his injuries, eventually being put down the following January due to complications from laminitis.
