Irish-bred Aussie winner for Dylan Thomas

COOLMORE sire Dylan Thomas got another first-crop northern-hemisphere two-year-old winner on the board on Tuesday - on the other side of the world in Australia.

Though she was foaled in Europe on April 8, 2009, the filly in question, Aeronwy, races in the southern hemisphere as a three-year-old - a disadvantage that didn't hinder the career of British-bred triple Melbourne Cup heroine Makybe Diva.

Aeronwy, an Irish-bred filly out of the Mr Prospector mare La Pepite, opened her account at the second time of asking at Mornington.

The Peter Moody-trained filly improved on her debut second earlier this month to win the 7½f maiden by the bestpart of a length as the well-backed favourite.

Running in the colours of well known Australian breeder Stuart Ramsey, the blue-blooded filly is also part owned by Michael Kirwan and Tony Vereker, who were no doubt attracted toher fabulous pedigree.

Aeronwy was purchased by Irish bloodstock agent Dermot Farrington for 85,000gns at the 2009 Tattersalls December Foal Sale and sent to Australia in May 2010.

Aeronwy is a half-sister to Listed winner Soldera and is one of seven winners from the Mr Prospector mare La Pepite, a daughter of super producer Fanfreluche, whose descendants have left two champion Australian sires in Encosta De Lago and Flying Spur.

The oldest Australian bred progeny by Dylan Thomas are two year-olds this season.
