Day two sees the figures improve at Inglis Easter

Inglis Easter b'mare Sale comparative figures: day two
YEAR CAT OFF SOLD % SOLD AGG AV MED
2009 224 182 131 72 6,567,500 50,134 25,000
2008 272 241 184 76 13,011,750 70,716 34,000

DAY TWO saw something of a steadying of the ship at the Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale after the large falls which were registered on day one.

The average of A$50,134 was a 29 per cent fall from 2008, the median of A$25,000 was a drop of 26 per cent, while the gross fell by 49 per cent to A$6,567,500. Compared with the falls in average and median of 65 per cent and 75 per cent on day one, day two, although as expected was down on 2008, gave vendors some respite.

The clearance rate was the one statistic that did drop off from the first day falling from 86 per cent to 72 per cent.

The day's clear top lot was the Group 1 winner La Montagna (Monashee Mountain), who fetched A$475,000. She was soldin-foal to Haradasun and was bought by leading purchaser Patinack Farms.  Mathan Tinkler's farm has bought five lots through the first two sessions for a total spend of A$1,745,000.

The next best-priced offerings were the Listed winners Pleasantsundaygirl and Miss Marielle, who each made A$250,000. Miss Marielle was sold in-foal to Danehill Dancer.

Inglis's managing director Mark Webster noted the wide range of buyers active this week.

"There has been a good spread of Australasian buyers, including a number of clients from Western Australia and New Zealand who have travelled to Sydney," he said.

"Additionally, it's great to have the emerging markets of Korea and the Philippines represented, along with other international buyers from Hong Kong, Ireland, the UK and North America.

"I would expect that trend to continue through tomorrow's final session, where there is obviously a lot of anticipation about Samantha Miss stepping into the Newmarket ring again."

The sale concludes tomorrow with the last session of the select part of the sale, a general session as well as the supplementary catalogue.
