SOLE POWER (3 g Kyllachy - Demerger by Distant View)

Breeder: G Russell

NOT only did Sole Power's 100-1 victory cause one of the biggest upsets in the history of Group 1 races, but it also saw him emulate his sire, Kyllachy, and grandsire, Pivotal, both of whom are previous winners of the Nunthorpe Stakes.

Pivotal ran down Eveningperformance to take the 1997 renewal by a head (it took the judge 20 minutes to call the winner) before carving out a reputation as a leading sire in Britain from his base at Cheveley Park Stud.

Crucial to Pivotal's early success was Kyllachy, who won the 2002 Nunthorpe Stakes before retiring to stand alongside his sire. Sole Power is one of ten stakes winners by Kyllachy andhis second at the highest level following the high-class Hong Kong performer Dim Sum.

Sole Power is the second Group 1 winner produced out of a Distant View mare this season following Special Duty and the second stakes runner out of the unraced Demerger following the Group 3-placed Cornus (by Inchinor).

Demerger is a half-sister to five winners including Como, the dam of Irish Listed winner Pencil Hill, while further back it is the Juddmonte family of high-class two-year-old Auction House.

Demerger has a yearling filly by Dutch Art destined for Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. She is consigned by Hillwood Stud who sold Sole Power for £32,000 to Eddie Lynam at the DBS StLeger Sale in 2008.

Demerger was barren to Bahamian Bounty last year.
