Dr Fong sold to stand at Haras du Thenney

ST JAMES'S Palace Stakes winner Dr Fong has been purchased to stand at Haras du Thenney. The 14-year-old son of Kris S will stand alongside Gentlewave and Orpen at the Normandy Stud.

Bred by Prestonwood Farm out of the Miswaki mare Spring Flight, Dr Fong raced in the colours of Ahmed Salman's Thoroughbred Corporation to win the Autumn Stakes at two.

In the following season he scored in the St James's Palace Stakes - in which he beat Desert Prince and Duck Row into the places - and the Prix Eugene Adam, before finishing runner-up to Desert Prince in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

The best progeny by Dr Fong, who had stood at Highclere Stud for the past five seasons, include Prix du Jockey Club third and Secretariat Stakes Shamdinan and Prix Saint-Alary heroine Ask For The Moon.

In total he has supplied 25 individual stakes winners including Group performers Celimene, Spotlight, Purple Orchid and Doctor Brown.

Dr Fong's brother Lucky Story, who stands at Tweenhills Stud in Gloucestershire, is the sire of Coventry and Golden Jubilee Stakes winner Art Connoisseur.

DrFong's fee in France next season has been set at €5,000. Orpen has had his fee increased from €6,000 to €8,000 while Gentlewave's fee remains unchanged at €4,500.
