Figures rise across the board at OBS Fall

SWEET Baby Jane, dam of last season's Grade 2 American Derby winner Reb, topped a quiet final session ofthe OBS Fall Mixed Sale in Ocala on Thursday when selling for $35,000.

Off the Hook, agent for Farm III, purchased the daughter of Kingmambo who was offered as barren by Ramsey Farm.

Wednesday's open session saw 180 of 277 horses offered sell for a total of $863,700, down two per cent from last year, and an average of $4,798, down eight per cent. The median dropped ten per cent to $2,700.

However, overall figures for the sale showed a marked improvement, thanks primarily to the dispersal of Al and Nora Figliolia's Westbury Stables. The dispersal, which was handled by Summerfield sales agency, accounted for 26 per cent of the total aggregate as well as the $250,000 sale-topper Zehoorr, who was sold to Rustlewood Stable during the consignor preferred session on Tuesday.

Overall, 346 horses were sold during the two-day auction for a total of $3,463,900, an increase of 48 per cent from last year. The averageleapt 28 per cent to $10,011 while the median rose 19 per cent to $5,000. 

The clearance rate rose from 59 per cent to 65 per cent.
