Kheleyf has
in his sights

FIRST-SEASON SIRE  Kheleyf is rapidly closing in on Invincible Spirit's first-season sire record of 36 winners in a season.

On Monday, Kheleyf sired his 30th winner when his daughter Kheleyf's Silver won the opening maiden at Windsor. He  produced his 29th winner just the day before.

Kheleyf's Silver, who had finished sixth on her first start before twice finishing second at Catterick, is her stallion's third most expensive yearling sold so far. She fetched 230,000euros when bought by trainer Brian Smart for Sheikh Rashid at the Goffs Million Sale in 2007, having previously been purchased by Hawthorn Villa Stud for 58,000gns at the Tattersalls Foal Sale.

Kheleyf's Silver is a half-sister to the David Nicholls-trained Masta Plasta, winner of the Norfolk Stakes-Gr3 run at York in 2005. This autumn, as a five-year-old, the Mujadil colt finished second in the Flying Five Stakes-Gr3 at The Curragh and won the Listed Prix de Bonneval at Chantilly.

Their dam Silver Arrow (Shadeed) was unplaced but she is a half-sister to three winners over 6f and 7f, including Ras Shaikh who was twice Listed placed at three. She is a granddaughter of Dabaweyaa who was runner-up in the 1,000 Guineas in 1988.
