Keeneland's Vinery sees a true Grade 1 family result

THERE was a real ‘home’ feel to the result of the Gr 1 Vinery Madison Stakes on Keeneland’s polytrack surface on Thursday night, with the winner Groupie Doll trained by Buff  Bradley, who is also co-owner and breeder with his father  Fred.

Irish Group 3 winner Future Generation was a non-runner on what would have been her first Gr stateside start.

Groupie Doll is by Bowman’s Band, a son of Dixieland Band who stood at Lane’s End Farm inKentucky. The four-year-old filly is by some way his best progeny.

Overall, by winning a Grade 1, Groupie Doll has defied he pedigree. Her dam Deputy Doll, by Silver Deputy, was unraced and is a half-sister to a Turf Paradise Listed winner. The only other Grade 1 winner in the first three generations is Diesis’ daughter Rotentootenwooten, who landed the Grade 1 Demoiselle Stakes at Aqueduct.
