Keeneland to offer palomino in January sale

KEENELAND officials have said that Hip No. 2167, a rising two-year-old daughter of Ballado Chieftain and Maid Of Gold T B, will be the first palomino thoroughbred to sell at one of their auctions.

Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland's director of sales, told "I was surprised. I didn't know that The Jockey Club registered thoroughbreds as palominos, but they obviously do.

"It will add a little bit of an extra twist to the sale, like it does when we sell white horses."

The filly, who was one of 31 palomino thoroughbreds registered in the US foal crop of 2007, will be consigned by Kevin Lay's Triple B Stables.

Lay has told US media that the horse has been bred to be primarily a good throughbred athlete, but that her colour would also give her considerable residual show value.

The Keeneland January sale takes place from January 12 to 17.
