Keeneland commission returns to five per cent

THE Keeneland sales commission will return to the industry standard of five per cent later this year, ten years after the auction house reduced it to 4.5 per cent.

The move is expected to start with the Keeneland September Sale in a decision that was influenced by the ongoing market stabilisation, according to Keeneland's vice president ofsales, Walt Robertson.

The commission for horses bought back by their vendors will remain below the standard rate at 2.5 per cent.

According to Keeneland, the reduction in sales commission to 4.5 per cent in 2001 has saved vendors approximately $30 million during the past ten years.

Keeneland are planning to invest the additional money raised into developing their race meetings and funding global recruitment among other goals.

The fee to enter horses in a Keeneland sale remains at $1,000, and includes sales commission on sales up to $20,000.
