Keeneland gross surpasses 2009 figure

THE cumulative aggregate for this year's Keeneland September Sale in Kentucky surpassed last year's overall figure on Thursday, even though there are still three days left of selling.

By the conclusion of Wednesday's trading, the cumulative aggregate had hit $192,884,100, three per cent above the $191,859,200 grossed in 2009. The average of $80,806 is ten per cent above last year's figure while the $40,000 median is up 21 per cent.

Thursday saw 294 horses sell for a total of $4,212,100, a massive rise of 68 per cent on the corresponding day last year. The average and median rose 40 and 29 per cent to $14,327 and $9,000.

A third session-topper of the auction came the way of Malibu Moon when Eisaman Equine went ot $95,000 for a daughter of the Spendthrift sire. Consigned by Gainesway, she is out of an unraced half-sister to Grade 1 winner Snow Ridge.

European activity was limited to MAB Agency, who paid $22,000 for a daughter of Vindication.
