Keeneland average rises once more on second day

KEENELAND continued to post encouraging returns on its second night thanks to a 32 per cent rise in average and the second seven figure yearling of the sale.

As on the first day, a relatively new player to the sales secured the top lot - Flag Stable 2 going to $2.05 million for a  Distorted Humor grandson of Miesque. Consigned by Lane'sEnd on behalf of his breeder Flaxman Holdings Ltd, the colt is out of Angel's Nest, an unraced Storm Cat half-sister to Kingmambo and East Of The Moon.

Once more, however, there was muted participation from the Darley and Coolmore teams.

Monday saw Coolmore fail to make a single purchase while Ferguson bought just one, a $200,000 son of Street Cry.
As on Sunday, Maktoum involvement was instead led by Sheikh Hamdan as the purchaser of six yearlings for $2.225 million. With 12 yearlings bought during Book 1 for a total of $5.11 million, his Shadwell Estates ended the book as leading buyer by gross.

Despite the rise in average, some established vendors at Keeneland described the trade as"selective"
