KAUTO STONE (g With The Flow - Kauto Relka)

Bred by Mme Henri Aubert in France

IN the week that racing bade farewell to a legend in Kauto Star, there was no more fitting winner of the Champion Chase at Down Royal on Saturday than his half-brother Kauto Stone.

The Paul Nicholls-trained six-year-old ran out the length winner under Daryl Jacob from First Lieutenant.

Kauto Stone has some way to go if he is to even come close to matching the achievements of Kauto Star, whose 19 victories included two Cheltenham Gold Cups and five renewals of the King George VI Chase. However, Kauto Stone is already a Grade 1 winner, thanks to a victory in the 2010 P. Maurice Gillois 4yo Grand Steeplechase at Auteuil, and was second in last year's Tingle Creek Chase.

Kauto Star and Kauto Stone are the best of six winners out of the unraced Kauto Relka. Others include the promising Kauto Grand Mogul, a four-year-old by Priolo who was the impressive winner of his second start, a bumper at Limerick, for Liz Doyle in March.

Kauto Relka's final foal is a three-year-old filly by Byzantium named Kauto Tireless.

Kauto Stone shares his sire, French Group 3 winner With The Flow, with recent Prix Violon II Steeplechase winner Totem Flow. The son of Irish River stands in Devon at Vauterhill Stud.
