Kauto Star's half-brother lands Limerick bumper

KAUTO STAR'S four-year-old half-brother Kauto Grand Mogol shed his maiden tag in good style on Monday, with a six and a half length-victory in the 2m bumper at Limerick.

Kauto Grand Mogol is trained in County Wexford by Elizabeth Doyle for his owner JC Delamere.

He was bred in France by Marie-Louise Aubert out of the late Port Etienne mare Kauto Relka, who secured her place in turf history by producing 16-time Grade 1 winner Kauto Star, the winner of the Betfair Chase and King George this season before pulling up in last week's Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Kauto Relka is also the dam of this season's Tingle Creek Chase runner-up Kauto Stone and winners Kauto Relko and Kauto Lumen Dei.

Kauto Grand Mogol, who had finished a promising second on his debut at Punchestown last month, is by the Group 1-winning miler Priolo, best known for siring Poule d'Essai des Poulains and St James's Palace Stakes winner Sendawar, but also responsible for smart jumpers Maralan and Serabad.

Despite his pedigree credentials, the market hardly enthused about Kauto Grand Mogol when he was offered as a yearling at the 2009 Arqana October Sale and agent Guy Petit was able to buy him for just €20,000.

Petit said at the time: "I thought he was a steal and have bought him for myself on spec. He is a lovely horse and a very good walker. If I was going to be critical it would be that maybehe is not that big at the moment but Kauto Stone is not really either."
