Star German mare Night Magic sold to Japan

FIVE-YEAR-OLD mare Night Magic, one of the best German fillies seen this century, has been sold for an undiclosed sum to Katsumi Yoshida´s Northern Farm in Hokkaido, Japan.

The daughter of Sholokhov was bred by Gestüt Etzean and sold as a yearling at the BBAG sale for 43,000euros to Stall Salzburg, whose owner Hans-Gerd Wernicke confirmed the sale on Wednesday.

Night Magic was voted German Horse ofthe Year for 2009 after winning the Preis der Diana (Oaks) in spectacular style that year; her best performance in 2010 was her victory in the Grosser Preis von Baden, and she ended her career last Sunday with a second place in the same event.

Wolfgang Figge, who trained her throughout her career, said on Wednesday: "She has already left my stable and is en route to Paris, where she will be in quarantine before leaving for Japan later. She has been sold as a broodmare and will not race again.

"She has given us an enormous amount of pleasure and we hope that she does equally well for her new owner."
