Chile shuttling duties for Bluegrass Cat

BLUEGRASS CAT, second only to Congrats among last year’s North American freshman sires by progeny earnings, will shuttle to Liliana Solari’s Haras Don Alberto in Chile for the upcoming southern hemisphere breeding season.

The son of Storm Cat, who stands at his owner-breeders WinStar Farm in Kentucky at a fee of $25,000, has supplied Grade 2 Golden Rod Stakes and Grade 3 Rachel Alexandra winner and Kentucky Oaks hopeful Kathmanblu and Grade 3 Grey Stakes winner Blue Laser.

Robert Hammond, director of stallion seasons and bloodstock at WinStar, said: “Bluegrass Cat is off to a great start at stud and we're thrilled that he's in high demand in South America.

“Haras Don Alberto is a top stallion operation that has had success with other North American stallions like Fusaichi Pegasus, Proud Citizen, Stevie Wonderboy and others, so we're looking forward to this partnership and expanding the Bluegrass Cat brand to the southern hemisphere market.”

Haskell Invitational winner Bluegrass Cat had another boost to his stud record last year when his close relation Super Saver won the Kentucky Derby.
