Kandidate retired and will stand in France

KANDIDATE, third in the 2,000 Guineas in 2005, has been retired and will stand at Haras de la Rousselière in France where his fee will be €1,500, according to a report on france-sire.com.

The Clive Brittain-trained son of Kabool raced 59 times from the ages of two to seven, winning four races at four and one race in each of his other seasons.

In total he won 10 races on turf and all-weather over distances ranging from 7½f to 1m4f, including a Group 3 double in the September Stakes and Haafhd Al Maktoum Challenge in Dubai.

His most notable performance was when finishing third behind Footstepsinthesand and Rebel Rebel in the 2,000Guineas.

An unconsidered 100-1 shot in the Newmarket classic, Kandidate had already finished fourth in the UAE version in February, and had not been beaten far into third behind Democratic Deficit in the Craven Stakes.

Kandidate is the best European performer by his sire Kabool, a Group 2-winning son of Groom Dancer who has since moved to South Africa. He is a half-sister to Star Valley, winner of a Group 3 over 6f at Deauville.
