JUDDMONTE has sold its US-based stallion Empire Maker to the Japan Bloodhorse Breeders’ Association.
Though the sale terms remain undisclosed, it is likely to have taken a large offer for Juddmonte to relinquish Empire Maker. With his first crop only five years old, the stallion has been represented by five individual Grade 1 winners, including last month’s Spinster Stakes heroine Acoma and last year’s Kentucky Derby runner-up Pioneerof The Nile.
Furthermore, ten-year-old Empire Maker – a triple Grade 1 winner, including in the Belmont Stakes – is by influential sire Unbridled and out of Juddmonte owner Khalid Abdullah’s exceptional broodmare Toussaud, also dam of other top-flight winners Chester House, Chiselling and Honest Lady.
Standing at $50,000 in 2010, Empire Maker was easily Juddmonte’s most expensive Kentucky-based sire. The farm’s patrons can access bloodlines similar to Empire Maker’s through First Defence, a son of Unbridled’s Song out of Honest Lady.
The JBBA’s Shizunai StallionStation houses a number of other high-profile former American and European horses, including Bago, Johannesburg, Opera House and Stravinsky.
