Ventura keeps flying the flag for Chester House

Report: USA, Saturday

Santa Anita: Santa Monica Handicap (Grade 1) 7f, AW
VENTURA (Chester House - Estala (Be My Guest))

Ventura followed up last season's success in the Breeder's Cup Filly & Mare Sprint with an authoritative victory in the Santa Monica Handicap (Gr1) from Jibboom (Mizzen Mast).

The Juddmonte homebred is by the late Chester House, who died in 2003, a son of the legendary mare Toussand who was herself put down in January.

Out of the Listed winner Estala,  Ventura is half-sister to five winners on the Flat, but, bizarrely, perhaps her most successful sibling is Talarive. He failed to win on the Flat but has been successful five times over hurdles, and finished second in a Grade 2 novice hurdle at Kelso.

Her second dam was the winner of one and the dam of Vortex, the winner of 17 races including the Group 3 Criterion Stakes; Prove, the winner of  the Prix Chloe, and Danefair, who was successful in the Prix Minerve and is dam of Trade Fair, who won the Minstrel Stakes (Gr3) winner,  was third in the Dewhurst Stakes (Gr1). He stands at Tweenhills Stud and has his first crop of runners this season.

Ventura's third dam is Cairn Rouge (Pitcairn), a champion older mare in England and Ireland in 1981 and the winner of the Champion Stakes, the Irish 1,000  Guineas and the Coronation Stakes (Gr2).
