John Warren: paid A$675,000 for a son of Encosta De Lago


British and Irish agents in action at Easter sale

THERE were several British and Irish investors on day one of the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, including agent John Warren, who paid A$675,000 (£428,567/€491,013) for  an Encosta De Lago colt from Emirates Park Stud. He is the third foal of triple Group 1 winner Shamekha from the family of high-class Brave Warrior.

BBA Ireland signed for a Danehill Dancer filly with a European pedigree from Coolmore Australia at A$450,00 (£285,708/€327,341). She is a half-sister to Racing Post Trophy second Winged Cupid out of Wood Ditton Stakes winner and Listed-placed Sweet Emotion, a half-sister to Hoity Toity, dam of Lillie Langtry. This is the family of sires Lead On Time and Great Commotion.

Grant Pritchard-Gordon's Badgers Bloodstock paid A$500,000 (£317,452/€363,766) for a Redoute's Choice filly out of the Encosta De Lago mare Slice Of Paradise. She is a sister to Group 3 winner and Blue Diamond Stakes third Beneteau and her dam is a sister to four-time Group 1 winner and champion Australian filly Alinghi.

De Burgh Equine was invloved in the purchase of a A$600,000 (£380,847/€436,401) Fastnet Rock filly along with James Harron Bloodstock, with the pair also paying A$240,000 (£152,309/€174,560) for a colt by Encosta De Lago. The Fastnet Rock is out of a Listed-placed half-sister to Adelaide Cup winner Demerger.

Dermot Farrington went to A$210,000 (£133,271/€152,715) to secure an Encosta De Lago filly from Coolmore Australia who is a sister to five-time Group 1 winner and champion three-year-old Racing To Win, while William Huntingdon bought an Encosta De Lago colt for A$190,000 (£120,598/€138,171) and a Rock Of Gibraltar filly for A$70,000 (£44,431/€50,919).

A colt and a filly by Redoute's Choice from Arrowfield Stud went to Chantilly Bloodstock including the A$850,000 second-top lot (£539,459/€618,263) and a A$440,000 colt (£279,263/€320,050) from the strong French family of Valixir and Val Royal.
