Jacobs upholds
family tradition

WHILE John Warren was buying the 500,000gns mare Our Queen Of Kings for Newsells Park Stud, Andreas Jacobs - whose later father Klaus established the Hertfordshire nursery - was also adding to the broodmare ranks of his family's Gestut Fahrhof in Germany, paying 210,000gns for Sagamix's half-sister Avec Amour.

Klaus Jacobs died after a long illness in September and his son plans to keep progressing the bloodstock operation.

"I have been running the business for the last five years so I am stretched - horses are the relaxation at the weekend and on days like this," he said. "We have 90 mares at Newsells, 90 in South Africa and 70 in Germany so the mating plans are hard work!

"Avec Amour will be going to Germany, really because she was picked by the German team but we have also been buying through John Warren for Newsells Park including Our Queen Of Kings. I loved Avec Amour's pedigree and she is carrying a Danehill Dancer colt which we will sell."

Klaus Jacobs had wanted to develop Newsells Park Stud into a stallion farm and his son has helped achieve that ambition with the purchase of Coral-Eclipse winner Mount Nelson to stand in 2009.

"Newsells Park will carry on as we had planned and we run it as a family by myself and my father's wife. My father was keen to stand a stallion such as this and it's very sad he didn't live to see it."
