Folkestone: Polish son of Fourth Of June scores

NICK GIFFORD-trained Jeczmien put in a fluent display of jumping to make most of the running and win the 2m novices' handicap chase at Folkestone on Tuesday.

The eight-year-old gelding was bred in Poland and was a domestic Group 1 winner on the Flat over 1m in Austria before being transferred to Britain.

He possesses bloodlines rarely seen in mainstream western European jumps racing. His sire, Fourth Of June, was bred and raced by Bloomsbury Stud and was unplaced in four starts at two for trainer Clive Brittain before reporting for stud duty in Poland.

Fourth Of June is by Miswaki and out of a daughter of Bloomsbury Stud's brilliant foundation mare Mrs Moss.

Jeczmien is out of Jetka, a daughter of the Deputy Minister stallion Five Star Camp from the family of German Listed-winning hurdler Jesienny Krokus.

British jumps trainers have enjoyed success with Polish-breds in the past, notably Tom George, who saddled Royal & SunAlliance Novices Hurdle winner Galileo and Listed-placed mare Kombinacja - both progeny of the Alleged stallion Jape.
