Chinchon adds to Marju's global reputation

United Nations Handicap (Grade 1), Monmouth Park, 11f

CHINCHON (5 h Marju - Jarama by Hector Protector)

Breeder: Zubieta Ltd

MARJU'S excellent run with his progeny continued on Saturday when French raider Chinchon defeated a strong field to land the United Nations Handicap at Monmouth Park.

The Irish-bred five-year-old is the eighth top level winner for Marju and remarkably, his third this season following Hong Kong stalwart Comic Strip and Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Bethrah. Their victories come at a time when Marju, now 22, is fighting a long battle against laminitis.

The son of Last Tycoon has spent the entirety of his 18-year stud career at Derrinstown Stud in Ireland and covered a restricted book of mares this season at €20,000.

Chinchon descends directly to E P Taylor's brilliant mare Sex Appeal via Northern Prancer, a sister to  El Gran Senor and Try My Best. Chinchon, one of two winners out of minor French winner Jarama and the first top level scorer out of a Hector Protector mare, is a welcome boost to this branch of the family, which had gone quiet in recent years.

Jarama has a Spanish-bred yearling colt by Leadership.
