Japanese bring boost for Barretts breeze preview

Japanese buyers were out in force at the preview breeze for the  March 21 Barretts selected two-year-olds in training sale in California.

Representing four groups, Tokyo-based Naohiro Goda confirmed that the major breeding farms on Hokkaido had escaped the worst of the horrific effects of the earthquake and tsunami.

But he said: "Some of the training facilities are having trouble because there is no electricity and a water shortage."

The sale, which last year produced exciting US three-year-old The Factor,  is held at the Hinds Pavilion at Fairplex and will start 7.00pm local time.

Although the breezes at the preview were described as "steady" by the Blood Horse, one of the most eye-catching performances came from lot 102, a son of Rock Hard Ten.
