Jan Vermeer to stand at Moroccan national stud

JAN VERMEER has been sold to stand at the Moroccan National Stud at Bouznika, south of Rabat.

The son of Montjeu was trained by Aidan O'Brien for Coolmore to win the Group 1 Criterium International at two and was fourth when favourite in last year’s Derby.

He also finished third in the Irish Derby and the Grand Prix de Paris at three, but this year at four he has failed to show that same level of form, with a third in the Brigardier Gerard Stakes and a second in the International Stakes at the Curragh.

Jan Vermeer was bred by the Shadow Song Syndicate out of the winning Pennekamp mare Shadow Song, a half-sister to May Hill Stakes winner Midnight Air, the damof Oaks third Midnight Line, and to the dam of Prix de l'Abbaye winner Imperial Beauty.

Together, Jan Vermeer's three-parts sister by Galileo, won last month’s Queen Elizabeth Challenge Cup Stakes.
