Carribean Sunset bought by Bester for $1 million

IRISH-bred Carribean Sunset became the second seven-figure horse of the day at Keeneland when she sold to James Bester Bloodstock for $1 million. Bester bought the 5-year-old Danehill Dancer mare on behalf of the Australian organisation Kia-Ora Stud.

“She was a beautiful mover; a very classy filly with a wonderful head,” said Bester. “I liked thepedigree. There was a lot going on there. We figured she fit the profile. We want group winning fillies.”

Out of the winning Royal Academy mare Bonheur, Carribean Sunset was consigned by Middlebrook Farm, agent.  A multiple Group 3 winner in Europe, she was also group/grade 1 placed in both Europe and the United States.

In 2008, Carribean Sunset was sold to Jon Kelly for $1.25 million at the Keeneland November sale. She was raced in a partnershipthat included Middlebrook’s Helen Alexander and ran second to champion Forever Together in the 2009 Diana Stakes (G1).

“We figured that this filly ticked all the boxes,” said Bester. “With the exchange rate the way it is now we are able to compete. She will go back to Australia and will be bred to one of the leading studs in Australia.”

Earlier, Kirkwood Stables, agent, purchased Well Monied for $600,000. The 4-year-old Maria’s Mon filly won the 2009 Honeymoon Handicap (G2) and finished second in the American Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1). She won one of two starts this year and was offered as a racing or broodmare prospect.

Well Moniedwas consigned by Taylor Made Sales, agency. She is out of the Quiet American mare Queen of America, who is also the dam of stakes winner Jimmy Simms.

S’ Avall sold to R.J. Bennett, agent, for $550,000. The unraced 3-year-oldAwesome Again filly is out of 2005 Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) winner Pleasant Home.

Claiborne Farm consigned the bay filly on behalf of Phipps Stable, which is reducing its stock. S’ Avall was offered in foal to Broken Vow.
