First winner for
Any Given Saturday

DARLEY'S Any Given Saturday becamethe latest major American sire to get off the mark when his daughter Ittasal justified favouritism for Godolphin on her debut over 7f at Kempton on Friday.

The Saeed bin Suroor-trained filly scored by three-quarters of a length under Ted Durcan from the Sir Percy filly Emmuska. She is the 12th runner for Any Given Saturday, who stood the past season in Kentucky at Darley at Jonabell for$20,000.

The son of Distorted Humor, who defeated stud-mate Hard Spun when winning the 2007 Grade 1 Haskell Invitational, has 85 two-year-olds to represent him this year bred off a first-year fee of $40,000.

Ittasal was bred by Darley out of the smart but lightly-raced Journalist, a daughter of Night Shift who ran half-a-length second to Saintly Speech in the 1999 Princess Margaret Stakes. Journalist is the dam of three other winners including La Presse, who ran fourth in the 2006 Cheveley Park Stakes, and the Listed-placed Emirates Girl.
