Giant's Causeway colt sells for 230,000gns

SHORTLY after coming off second best for an Exceed And Excel colt, Sir Robert Ogden's racing manager, Barry Simpson, went one better when paying 230,000gns for a son of Giant's Causeway (55).

"He will join Jeremy Noseda," said Simpson. "Although he is probably more of a long term prospect, hopefully he will be able to run around July time."

Consigned by Mocklershill Stables, the colt is out of the Seeking The Gold mare Zoe Montana and a half-brother to Godolphin's Listed King Charles II Stakes winner Council Member.

Meanwhile a daughter of Invincible Spirit provoked some spirited bidding, eventually selling for 220,000gns.

Richard Frisby tried hard to get the filly but it was Jamie McCalmont, standing on the back wall, who had the final say.

Consigned by Paddy Twomey's Hawthorn Villa Stud, the filly was a 77,000gns pinhook and is a granddaughter of the Grade 3 winner Water Lily, the ancestress of no fewer than 15 stakes performers.
