Leading Argentine sire to stand in Kentucky

INDYGO Shiner, sire of this season's Argentine Derby winner Tecla Shiner, will stand at Hill ‘n' Dale Farm in Kentucky next season at a fee of $7,500.

The ten-year-old son of A P Indy, who is out of a sister to the multiple Grade 1-producing mare Toussaud, has stood in Argentina since his retirement from racing in 2003.

Indygo Shiner enjoyed his most notable win in the Grade 3 Jefferson Cup Stakes, although he arguably turned in his best performance when second in the Grade 1 Grey Breeders' Cup Stakes as a two-year-old.

As well as Tecla Shiner, Indygo Shiner is also the sire of this season's Gran Premio Seleccion (Argentine Oaks) heroine Miss Match, thus making him the only sire in modern Argentine history to sire both the winners of the Argentine Derby and Oaks in the same season.

Indygo Shiner is also responsible for Gran Premio Polla de Potrillos (Argentine 2,000 Guineas) winner Mi Amiguito, who later ran third to Tecla Shiner in the Gran Premio Nacional (Argentine Derby), and Group 1 winner Garatero.

"Indygo Shineris the product of two of the world's leading breeders in Lane's End and Juddmonte Farms," said John Sikura of Hill ‘n' Dale.

"He is by the most important sire and emerging sire of sires in North America. His femalefamily is impeccable, as he is out of Navarra, a graded stakes-winning full sister to Kentucky Broodmare of the Year Toussaud."

Sikura added: "His success in Argentina has been unparalleled as he is currently the leading sire with just two crops to race. Indygo Shiner offers breeders a great opportunity to breed to a leading sire that has the potential to become an important sire in North America. He is a stunning individual that hails from one of the greatest pedigrees in the stud book."
