Indian Blessing (Indian Charlie - Shameful (Flying Chevron))

THE La Brea Stakes, the last Group / Grade 1 Flat race of 2008 to be staged in the US or Europe, was won bythe Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf runner-up, the Indian Charlie filly, Indian Charlie.

It is her fifth victory at Grade 1 level and her trainer Bob Baffert's sixth win of the race. Unfortunately, the pacesetter Indyanne, also a daughter of Indian Charlie, led into the stretch only to be rapidly pulled up lame. It is believed that she has fractured a front left sesamoid, however, an early veterinary prognosis for recovery is good. The race was runon the pro-turf surface.

Indian Blessing was last year's Eclipse Award winner as the nation's best juvenile filly. She has now earned $2,437,200 in prize-money and this was her sixth victory, including three Grade I triumphs, from nine starts this year.

Hombred by Hal and Patti Earnhardt, she is out of Grade 3-placed stakes winner Shameful, by the Carson City sire, Flying Chevron.

Baffert reported after the racethat the $2 million Golden Shaheen-Gr1 at the Dubai World Cup on March 28 might be the target for th filly.
