Singspiel experiencing fertility problems

DARLEY has announced that multiple Group 1 winner Singspiel has been suffering from fertility problems in the current breeding season.

In a statement Sheikh Mohammed's breeding operation said: "Singspiel has experienced fertility problems since the commencement of the 2010 breeding season that are thought to be linked to a brief illness he suffered in January. Since that time Singspiel has enjoyed good health.

"It is hoped that Singspiel's fall in fertility is temporary, so he remains covering a reduced book of mares and will continue to be assessed as the breeding season progresses."

Singspiel, an 18-year-old son of In The Wings, won four Group/Grade 1 races - the Canadian International, Japan Cup, Coronation Cup and Juddmonte International Stakes - in a stellar racing career, which also included a Dubai World Cup victory before that race was given Group 1 status.

His best progeny include Dubai World Cup winner Moon Ballad and Ascot Gold Cup hero Papineau, while 2009 was a banner year, with Dar Re Mi, Eastern Anthem and Hibaayeb scoring top-flight victories.

Singspiel is advertised by Darley as standing at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £15,000 this year.
