It was the first start for New Year's Eve, who powered away from Bold Henry to win by five lengths.

A 120,000gns yearling purchase by Ferguson out of the draft of his breeder, Newsells Park Stud, at Book 1 of the 2009 Tattersalls October Sale, New Year's Eve is one of five National Hunt winners by the Derby hero Motivator. The Royal Studs incumbent has sired seven stakes winners on the Flat including the Group 2-winning juvenile Pollenator.

Although a three-parts brother to the Listed-placed Midnight Game (by Montjeu), New Year's Eve's half-brother West With The Wind (by Fasliyev) has developed into a talented jumper with a victory in a Grade 3 chase at Limerick to his credit.

They are out of the 2002 German Oaks runner-up Midnight Angel, an Acatenango half-sister to German St Leger winner Moonlady, herself the dam of Japanese Derby hero Eishin Flash.

Midnight Angel, who was purchased by Newsells Park for 500,000gns at the 2002 Tattersalls December Sale, has a yearling filly by Galileo.
