winner for Assertive
HIGH-CLASS sprinter Assertive was represented by his first winner on Monday when Front Page News got off the mark at the second time of asking in the 6f maiden at Windsor.
The Robert Eddery-trained filly was a striking winner under Andrea Atzeni, staying on strongly to score by two lengths from Boleyn.
Bred by Helen Plumbly and Wendy Balding in Britain, Front Page News is the fourth winner out of Branston Berry, a triple-winning Mukaddamah daughter of the Group 3-placed sprinter Food Of Love. She was sold to her trainer for £8,000 at last year's DBS Premier Yearling sale.
Like his sire Bold Edge before him, Assertive was a tough and high-class sprinter for Richard Hannon, winning five of 35 starts. He enjoyed his finest moment when successful in the 2008 Group 2 Duke Of York Stakes although he was also second to African Rose in that year's Group 1 Ladbroke Sprint Cup.
He stands at Throckmorton Court Stud for £2,500.
