One-two for Flemensfirth in Betfair Chase

Betfair Chase (Grade 1), Haydock, 3m

IMPERIAL COMMANDER (9 g Flemensfirth - Ballinlovane by Le Moss) Breeder: Laurence J. Flynn

IMPERIAL Commander turned in an authoritative display to defeat Tidal Bay in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on Saturday, thus leading home a one-two for Flemensfirth. In addition, both are out of Le Moss mares.

His victory also marked a welcome victory for Irish-breds during an afternoon in which those produced in France had landed the Amlin 1965 Chase (Master Minded) and Coral Hurdle (Silviniaco Conti) at Ascot and the Listed handicap hurdle at Haydock (Grand Crus).

In finishing first and second, Imperial Commander and Tidal Bay confirmed themselves as the leading runners by RPR by Flemensfirth. Now rising 19-years-old, the son of Alleged stands under the Coolmore jumps banner at the Beeches in Ireland. Among his other stand-out runners are Joe Lively, Muirhead and Time For Rupert.

Purchased for €19,000 by C. McKeever at the 2004 Goffs Land Rover Sale, Imperial Commander is the only winner under rules out of Ballinlovane, herself a point-to-point winner at four and five years.
