ILLUSTRIOUS BLUE 7 h Dansili - Gipsy Moth

ILLUSTRIOUS Blue proved that 2m wasn't beyond him in Wednesday's Sagaro Stakes when running down a game Aajel to score in emphatic style.

Now seven-years-old, the William Knight-trained son of Dansili was scoring for the second time at Group 3 level and in his ninth race overall.

Although a specialist miler, Dansili proved early on in his stud career that he could sire high-class middle-distance horses, Rail Link and Zambezi Sun being the most early notable examples.

However, before today he had yet to sire a Group winner over further than 1m4f. In addition, none of Illustrious Blue's half-siblings are winners beyond 7f while one, the Oasis Dream filly Mullein, was a Listed winner over 5f. Furthermore, his dam, the Efisio mare Gipsy Moth, was a 5f Listed winner in France and is a half-sister to Heavenly Whisper, winner of the 1m Masaka Stakes in 2001.

B. J. and Mrs Crangle bred Illustrious Blue, who was purchased by Amanda Skiffington for 28,000gns as a yearling.

The second home, the Aljabr gelding Aajel, is the latest in a long line of smart runners to descend from Height Of Fashion.
