Freshman Hurricane continues winning run

FIRST-SEASON sire Hurricane Run sired his eighth individual winner on Monday when the Jim Bolger-trained filly Hurricane Havoc comfortably won a 7f maiden at Roscommon by two and a half lengths.

Hurricane Run is currently on a roll, as Hurricane Havoc is the sire's third new winner in four days, after Ballybacka Lady won a 6f maiden at Dundalk on Friday and Zakumi landed a 1m maiden for newcomers at Rome on Sunday.

Hurricane Havoc, from the family of Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Rail Link, was bought by Bolger for €95,000 at last year's Goffs Orby yearling sale.

She holds entries for the Irish 1,000 Guineas and Irish Oaks, and her jockey Kevin Manning said: "She is a nice filly and did it nicely. Hopefully she’ll improve further and should step up to a mile without any difficulty."

A first-crop son of Montjeu, Hurricane Run was an outstanding middle-distance horse, winning eight races including the Irish Derby, Arc, Tattersalls Gold Cup and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

His other first-crop progeny include Prestige Stakes runner-up Cochabamba.
