Horse tests positive
for rabies in Kentucky

A THOROUGHBRED kept in the Lexington area of Kentucky has tested positive to rabies, according to a reportin The Horse.

The horse was sent to a veterinary clinic after showing signs of colic on February 5, and was in isolation following exploratory surgery when it started to suffer violent seizures. It was euthanised soon after.

According to department spokesman Kevin Hall, tests have since confirmed that the horse was suffering from rabies. Officials are now working with the farm where the horse was kept to determine the level of human exposure.
