About 450 Hong Kong owners and club members turned out at Sha Tin on December 7 to watch 31 lots for the Hong Kong International Sale 2008 Breeze-Up work on the racecourse.

"We are delighted with the turnout in light of the current economic climate as it shows that interest in the sale is still strong. I think each lot, right across the price spectrum, presented themselves very professionally," said Mark Player, head of international races, sale and development of the HKJC.

"It's a real pleasure to put forward such a balanced line-up of potential stars. This year we have invested more time and money in trying to secure the highest quality young horses with the right bloodlines for Hong Kong and we believe this has been reflected in this morning's breeze-up."

From the European draft, a Pivotal gelding out of Kirov (Darshaan), who was bought from the Tattersalls October Sale 2007 for 160,000gns, and an Exceed And Excel gelding out of Royal Fizz (Royal Academy) who cost €230,000 at the Goffs Million, both breezed particularly well.

The Hong Kong International Sale 2008 will take place in the parade ring of Sha Tin Racecourse at 10.30am on Saturday, December 13 on the eve of the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races meeting.
