Winner: Maureen

b Holy Roman Emperor - Exotic Mix (Linamix)

AN UNLUCKY runner-up to Sendmylovetorose in the Cherry Hinton Stakes last time out, Maureen made amends with a convincing win in the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

Richard Hannon-trained Maureen becomes the sixth Group winner sired by Coolmore resident Holy Roman Emperor - and all of them are fillies.

Holy Roman Emperor's other dazzling daughters include this season's 1,000 Guineas heroine Homecoming Queen and Jersey Stakes scorer Ishvana, and last season's multiple Group winner Banimpire.

A son of Danehill from the family of Encosta De Lago, Flying Spur and Kheleyf, Holy Roman Emperor won the Phoenix Stakes and Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere before being drafted into the Coolmore stallion ranks at three to take the place of the subfertile George Washington.

Holy Roman Emperor's fee at Coolmore this year was €12,500.

Maureen was bred by Colm McEvoy out of the placed Linamix mare Exotic Mix, a half-sister to Cherry Hinton winner Spinola and 1m Group 3 winner Shot To Fame.

Exotic Mix has produced two other winners, Glass Mountain and Roedean, though they have plied their trade at plating level.

Maureen became the ninth individual Group scorer this season out of a Linamix mare, along with top-flight winners Most Improved, Sagawara and Valyra.

And it didn't take long for the tally to extend to ten, as Leaupartie, a daughter of Stormy River and the Linamix mare Kansa landed the Group 3 Prix de Psyche at Deauville on Saturday evening.

Linamix has excelled as a broodmare sire. The likes of Blue Bunting, Clodovil and Natagora are also out of his daughters.

Maureen was knocked down to Michael Halford for €20,000 at the Goffs Orby yearling sale.
