Al Zir: Bayou Hebert is damsire of the Group 1-placed Godolphin colt

Bayou Hebert, damsire of Al Zir, put down

BAYOU Hebert, who stood his entire career at Clear Creek Stud near Folsom, Louisiana, has been put down after complications from the infirmities of old age. He was 29 and had been retired from stud duties since 2007.

The sprinter won or placed in 13 of 15 races and earned $106,087, and has sired 11 stakes winners, including Louisiana champion Genuine Meaning, and the earners of more than $5.2 million.

His stakes winners asa broodmare sire include New York Grade 1 winner Midas Eyes, and he is the damsire of Racing Post Trophy third Al Zir.

The Kentucky-bred son of Hoist The Flag is out of the Damascus mare Regal Rumor, and raced for his breeders Albert M. Stall and Earl Burke. He was a popular runner in Louisiana and the Bluegrass State, winning multiple times at Fair Grounds, Churchill Downs, and Keeneland.
