Kempton NH Breeze-up sale-topper fifth on debut
Hobsons Bay, a £170,000 sale-topper at the DBS Kempton NH Breeze-Up Sale of 2008, made his debut today in the bumper at Musselburgh.
The Howard Johnson-trained and Graham Wylie-owned gelding was sent off 15/8 favourite, but could finish only fifth of the 13 runners. The five-year-old made the running and looked green in front, veering left and surrendering the lead on one of the bends, before fading in the closing stages.
The son of Flemensfirth was bought for €40,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale asa three-year-old, before being re-offered at Kempton in December. The Jim Goldie-trained winner, Miss Abbey, was a mere 3,000gns purchase as a foal and the six-year-old mare is by Missed Flight out of a sister to Grey Abbey.
