Shakespeare's stud fee slashed by a third

HILL 'N' DALE Farms in Kentucky has reduced the 2009 fee for Shakespeare by a third, from $15,000 to $10,000.

A son of Theatrical, Shakespeare was a top-class turf runner in North America, winning the 2005 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational (Gr1) over 1m4f at Belmont Park, and the Woodbine Mile (G1) in 2007.

He was retired to Hill 'n' Dale last year at a fee of $20,000 and will have his first foals on the ground in 2009.

Hill 'n' Dale president John Sikura said: "This adjustment in fee represents a great deal for breeders. We are aware that these are trying times and want to ensure a large book of quality mares for the horse."
