Zaftig joins Hill 'n' Dale

HILL 'N ' DALE Farm has announced that the Grade 1 winner Zaftig has joined its broodmare band.

John G. Sikura, president of Hill 'n' Dale Farms, said in a statement that his operation was looking to replenish its broodmare band after the recent sale of some mares, including its interest in Better Than Honour, who sold for a record $14 million to part-owner Michael Moreno of  Southern Equine at the Fasig-Tipton November Select Mixed Sale. She was sold through the dispersal of the joint holdings of Sikura and Southern Equine.

"Her world-class pedigree indicates she has the capability of throwing any calibre of runner on dirt or turf going short or long," said Sikura.

Zaftig is by Gone West out of  Zoftig (Cozzene), won last year's renewal of the Acorn Stakes (Gr1) at Belmont, before finishing third in Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (Gr1).

Bred in Kentucky by Top Notch Farms, Zaftig was retired in November due to a torn suspensory ligament.  She was owned by John and Susan Moore.

Mating plans for Zaftig have not yet been announced.
